Despair

I've taken this macro photo a couple of days after I've bought a reflective umbrella. I'm actually amazed by the quality that they bring to the pictures together with a very simple flash. Thanks to Strobist to change my mind about using artificial light.

Memory

Yesterday I've watched Donnie Darko on TV. Apart from how good the movie is one part of it stuck in my mind. It is the part when they are proposing an system to create early memory in kids and the teacher asks: and if the we need that darkness in our early childhood to allow our development? And I think that the ability to forget is actually important. I have a very good memory of my life and in fact in not being able to forget mistakes from the past and go over and over them sometimes is a daunting thing.

Copy to learn

Reading the book about the story of Van Gogh one thing striked me. He was a avid copier of other artists paintings that he admired as a way of learning. I think I might benefit from that. As long as I'm honest to myself to the fact that I'm copying to learn and that I will always try to bring something mine to the copy. I will look at some picture that I admire and copy them with what I have at hand. And with that in mind I think I've being doing this all along and I can clearly see references of other photos in those 2.

Landscape

Landscape in black'n'white is a hard thing. It is always easy to make a good photo with a colorfull sunset sky. But with a dull, overcasted sky it is always a game of patience and luck. What has been helping lately has been the Doors and Muse songs.

Diagonals

There is something about diagonals. Even when they don't bring us to anything but a white nothing, they make the picture to me.
